YoUth RAP, Youth Urban Renewal Arts Program, is an after-school program serving two schools in North and Northeast Philadelphia. We are dedicated to helping youth ages 9-14 find their civic voice through art. Through a series of lessons, activities, and trips students are given a creative voice to speak out about issues in their local communities, and are empowered to try to make real changes in their lives, their neighborhoods, and their world. We seek to instill our children with a sense of creativity, social justice, and community activism that will stick with them for the rest of their lives!



The Assistant Teacher is responsible for supporting the activities and curriculum developed by the Lead Teacher. Alongside their Lead and other Assistants, an Assistant Teacher is expected to work directly with students, to be able to assist in maintaining order in the class, and to help students see their projects through to completion. Assistant Teachers are also responsible for handling a small amount of administrative paperwork.



Daily hours are from 3pm to 6pm--not including setup and clean-up time. There will be occasional full days, trips, and meetings. Some schedule flexibility is needed.



Positive attitude when working with children is a must.



Interviews will begin next week for remaining positions in this year's program, and will be concluded by the first week of September.



Qualifications:



Arts background - documented formal artistic training or experience

Civic involvement - volunteer or professional experience with grassroots social justice organizations

Experience with children - at least six months experience working with middle school aged youth

Transportation - not required, but definitely a plus

Salary range - $11-$13 per hour or a salary option of $12,000 to $15,000 per year (dependent on experience and education).
